OPEN.com Booming Index Launched

This morning we launched a new OPEN.com home page which serves to outline a new platform for OPEN. The page combines a number of dynamic real time elements via a CMS and Social Aggregation system that pulls in the latest and greatest Booming stories. We’ve also included a component of the campaign where users can share their own success stories to perhaps be featured in marketing to come.

We’ve built the site to have comparable experiences, sans dynamic elements, in both HTML and Flash. Check out the new OPEN.com page:

FITC Workshop – Bridging Physical and Digital Through Arduino and Flash

About 1 week ago I had the pleasure of leading a 7 hour workshop on physical computing and how to connect flash to Arduino. Thanks to Sparkfun, we had a great set of components and support from Chris Rojas.

The official title of the workshop was:

“Bridging Physical and Digital Through Arduino and Flash – Workshop”

Description: Physical computing is about connecting the digital with the physical space, and this has never been more relevant and accessible to digital creative than now. Spend the day with CP+B technologists prototyping with Flash and arduino. Attendees will be divided up into small teams, given a box of components, a random creative brief, and tasked with building a working prototype by the end of the session. Sparkfun will be on-hand with gobs of free gadgets for us to experiment with and some guidance on how best to use them. Seven hours, a huge mess of Sparkfun parts and your imagination. Anything is possible.

Gently Prod with a Hint from HintHelper4000

Late last night we launched HintHelper4000. The premise of the site is simple, gently hint and prod your friends with subtle hints. The hinting mechanisim is magic, so you’ll just have to participate to find out how it all works. This was a great project to lead and spearhead for a number of reasons.

Meet The Volkswagens

One of the newest pieces of work I’ve been a part of here at the agency is the launch of the Meet The VWs facebook initiative. 14 invidual model fan pages have been created along with a really interesting facebook application. The facebook application makes use of the API in innovative and unique ways. All in all, this has been a great project.

BurgerKing Whopper Bar

BurgerKing Whopper Bar is a great new initiative from BurgerKing. The premise is a “pimp my ride” for Whoppers. The initial location is down in Universal Studios Florida, and I’m anxious to see how it does.

The site build consisted of multiple technologies, with the main being Flash 9, ActionScript 3, as well as some PHP and HTML/CSS work.

My role in this particular project was the Sr. Technical Lead, essentially leading the integration with the BurgerKing IT department, directing and planning with our internal dev team, and the usual development of course. The entire site was built in approximately 10 days from start to finish and is definitely a great example of the consistently strong efforts of our technical team.

Babymaker 3000

Babymaker 3000 was an initative to support the upcoming launch of the Routan, VW’s first minivan. We created two digital initiatives that centered around the use of facial recognition software, and genetic feature influence. The result was a virtual “babymaker” that allowed people multiple means of viewing the resulting child from 2 different parents.

In addition to the Babymaker 3000 website, we created a sister facebook application, that brought the Babymaker Experience to the social network.

I’m A PC – Times Square

I’m A PC was a large campaign for Microsoft, that was centered around user generated content. A key component of this campaign was a digital out of home production taking place in Times Square, that incorporated this user generated content.

In addition to the entry path of the website, we needed a means of capturing user content by our street teams. In order to do this, I was asked to build an application that would allow the street team to, capture the image of the individuals encountered on the street, capture their “saying”, and then save the image to local storage.

In addition, I built a service that ran at a predetermined interval and pushed the content to moderation systems, from which we pushed the content to both the website, and the times square sign.

VW Builders

I’ve worked on the builders since starting at CP+B. The goal was to increase performance and speed through the vw builders. Through various programatic changes, and revisition of asset creation, we have made great strides and performance has been increased signficantly.
